Sales Description
Persian Mauser Model 98/29 bolt-action long rifle chambered in the hard-hitting 7.92x57mm (8mm Mauser) cartridge. Serial number C02136. Manufactured in the 1930s by the legendary CZ Brno factory in Czechoslovakia under contract for the Iranian government, these rifles are famous for their incredibly smooth actions, brilliant metallurgy, and the striking Lion and Sun Persian crest stamped on the receiver ring. It features a full-length 30-inch barrel and an overall length of 49 inches, retaining its original Farsi rear sight graduations. Condition is Fair, showing honest wear from its military history, but crucially, it still retains its under-barrel cleaning rod.
This marking indicates the rifle was at some point inspected or serviced by the Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA) in England.
While Persian Mausers were primarily manufactured by BRNO in Czechoslovakia (Model 98/29), many underwent later service or were sold into different markets, leading to varied markings.
Meaning of the Specific Stamp
- B.S.A: The abbreviation for the Birmingham Small Arms Company, a major British arms manufacturer.
- 4: This typically represents an inspection mark or a rack/unit designation assigned during a specific period of use or refurbishment.
- Context for Persian Mausers: Some Persian-contract rifles were captured or transitioned through British-occupied territories, particularly after the 1941 Anglo-Soviet invasion of Iran. During such periods, British-style unit or inspection marks were sometimes added to the stocks.
