About the Zastava M48A: Developed after WWII as Yugoslavia's continuation of the Mauser design lineage — blending the earlier Belgian-designed M24 short rifle with features borrowed from Germany's Kar98k — the M48 served as Yugoslavia's standard-issue infantry rifle through the 1950s and 60s. The M48A variant, introduced in 1952, incorporated stamped sheet-metal parts (such as the magazine floor plate) to speed production while retaining the same forged-steel bolt and receiver as the original M48. With over 1.2 million rifles produced, the M48/M48A remains one of the most accessible and well-regarded post-WWII Mauser-pattern military rifles available to collectors.
